Wedding Planner Cost: Prices, Packages & What to Ask
Understand wedding planner fees, compare the help included and decide which planning tasks you want to handle yourself.

Wedding planner cost depends on how much help you book, where your wedding takes place and the work involved. As a starting point, The Knot reports a US average of $2,100 across planning services. Your own quotes may be substantially higher or lower.
The useful question is: Which responsibilities will this fee take off our list? Compare the actual service scope before comparing package names.
Wedding planner prices by service level
| Service | Typical focus | US survey average |
|---|---|---|
| Full-service planning | Planning support across the preparation process | $3,800 |
| Month-of coordination | Final planning handover and coordination | $2,400 |
| Day-of coordination | Wedding-day schedules and logistics | $1,600 |
These figures come from The Knot's cost guide updated May 13, 2026. They are US survey averages, not package quotes, minimum prices or a prediction for your area. Providers define their packages differently.
For a real pricing example, Bay Area provider Beyond Lace Events lists $1,750 for month-of coordination, $3,950 for partial planning and $4,500 for full service when checked in October 2026. That is one provider's published pricing, which can change.
Why two quotes can look very different
A larger event may need more staff or a longer working day. Multiple locations, extensive setup, travel and additional celebrations can also change the scope. Experience, availability and local market conditions affect the price you are offered.
Ask when the service begins. A package called “day-of coordination” may include preparation and handover meetings before the wedding. What matters is the work listed in the proposal.
7 questions to ask before hiring a planner
- Which tasks will you manage, and which will stay with us?
- When does your involvement begin, and how do we communicate?
- Who will attend on the day, and how many hours are covered?
- Does the fee include staff, travel, rehearsals and additional locations?
- Is pricing flat, hourly, percentage-based or a combination?
- If there is a percentage fee, which expenses and minimums apply?
- What happens if the scope changes or extra hours are needed?
Put the answers beside each quote in your wedding budget spreadsheet. Add the agreed payment dates and the person responsible for each remaining task.
Can you plan a wedding without a professional planner?
Yes, if you have the time, support and confidence to manage the work. Be realistic about who will handle questions, timing and problems during the celebration itself. Ask your venue what its coordinator covers before assuming every wedding-day task is included.
A digital wedding planner gives you a place to organize information. A professional planner provides a service: advice, supplier communication, coordination or other agreed responsibilities. Decide which kind of help you need for each part of the process.
